Welcome to The ACP Advocate.
The 2010 rollout of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act includes changes aimed at expanding access to care, bolstering the primary care workforce and testing delivery system reforms. Our first story this issue updates you on some of the details of what to expect from health care reform this year.
Our second story this week looks at a new policy paper developed by ACP's Health and Public Policy Committee calling for an end to health care disparities. While the new health care law helps, ACP is calling for significant changes in the health-care system, educational system and society-at-large to reduce the gaps in care.
Also in this issue, please find brief updates and links to the latest from the Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative.

Insights Offered at PCPCC Stakeholders' Working Group Meeting
The Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative held its summer Stakeholders' Working Group Meeting in Washington, DC on July 22. Focusing on 'The PCMH in the Community,' the keynote speakers were Mary Wakefield, Ph.D, R.N., Administrator, Health Resources and Services Administration, HHS, and Anthony Rodgers, Deputy Administrator and Director of the Center for Strategic Planning at CMS. David Meyers, from AHRQ, gave a presentation in which he announced AHRQ's new PCMH website. ACP's Bob Doherty was an advisor for the new website. Speaker bios and presentations are available. |
PCPCC releases two guides at its July stakeholders' meeting
At its July 22 Stakeholders' Working Group Meeting, the Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative released two guides.
'The Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH): Integrating Comprehensive Medication Management to Optimize Patient Outcomes' was developed by the PCPCC Medication Management Task Force and 'Payment Reform to Support High-Performing Practice' was developed by the PCPCC Payment Reform Task Force. |
